Celebration in Honour of Our Lady of Lourdes

 and the

First Class Relic of St Bernadette Soubirous

St Colman's Church 293 Carlisle Street Balaclava

Sunday 10th December

Lourdes is one of the most loved shrines throughout the whole world. It is a place like none other.  At Lourdes people experience the gentle love and healing hand of God.

Millions have come to Our Lady of Lourdes burdened with their sufferings of various kinds:  physical, emotional, spiritual, and millions have been consoled and healed by the love and power of the prayers of Our Lady of Lourdes both at Lourdes itself and  wherever She has been revered and her intercession sought.

There are many healings thoroughly investigated by rigorous scientific and medical analysis.  Official cures are only recognised when the effort is made to collect all of the medical and scientific reports, and to submit the testimony of those who witnessed the healing, and when the medical sciences report that the healings were inexplicable, total and never to return again.   The official cures are just the tip of a wonderful iceberg  of healings and favours given through the loving kindness of Our God through Our Lady of Lourdes.

Right from the beginning cures were reported by people who had access to water from Lourdes. A sick boy of 16 named Henri Busquet was refused permission to visit Lourdes by his parents, but a neighbor provided him with some Lourdes water and the agonising throat ulcer caused by tuberculosis disappeared completely. This was only ten weeks after the first apparition.  What many people do not realise that the son of Napolean III  was gravely ill but was restored to complete health through water obtained from Lourdes.  This miracle led to the emperor allowing the grotto to be reopened to the public.

Our Lady is there to heal and bless whereever people gather in Her honour. Blessing and healings continue to this day.  Just a few years ago one of our own members, Juliana, who had been confined to a wheel chair was completely healed.

Please do come and receive the blessings.  Just like at Lourdes there will be blessing with the Blessed Sacrament before the Benediction.  There will be individual blessing with the water from Lourdes after the Mass.

Our Lady will be honoured with a procession.  There will be a special healing Mass.  So many graces and blessings.

Ah yes, there will also be the First Class relic of the great and incorrupt St Bernadette Soubirous, one of the most loved saints of the whole Church, and the humble instrument chosen by God.  What an important role she played.  So many came to belief in Lourdes because of her sincerity, her simplicity and because the grace of God flowed so powerfully through her.   How graced we are that there will be present a piece of her incorrupt flesh for your own veneration.

So there are many, many reasons for you to come and be part of this wonderful grace filled occasion.  Please tell and bring others to this very special event. St Colman’s is very accessible:  There is off street parking behind the Church; It is very  close to Balaclava Station, and Trams 3&16 bring you right to the doors of the Church.

The Angels rejoiced when Our Lady was conceived in the womb of Her Mother Saint Anne.

If the heaven’s rejoice how delighted   we should be and what a sense of wonder, joy, and gratitude we should have on this great occasion. Saint Anne and Saint Joaquim  were truly holy people chosen by God to be the parents of Our Lady.

Our Lady is the glory of God, the most splendid work of His creation.  She gives more honour to the Holy Trinity, and is more powerful in heaven than all the other saints and angels put together.  If we were to think of all the great and good works of holy men and women throughout  the ages they pale in comparison to what God has done, and continues to do through Mary.

Let us not miss out!  When we honour Our Lady, our hearts expand to allow God to enter.  Our Lady is so powerful in heaven.  So why not come and enjoy some of those huge graces God gives to those who honour His Mother.  Our Lady is so wonderful - come on this special day and receive Her aid.
